When it comes to modern textile finishing, the goal isn’t just to blast the fabric with heat. That’s a quick way to ruin a batch. It’s more about controlling exactly how that energy hits the material. For those of us running Santex machinery, the real trick is keeping a steady temperature across the entire width of the fabric so you don’t end up with scorched fibers or wet spots. Why we go with shortwave IR We use shortwave infrared lamps for a simple reason: they punch through the fabric deeper and faster than the medium-wave stuff. This means your fabric spends less time sitting in the oven. But here’s the thing—you have to balance your wattage against how fast your conveyor is moving. If you crank the wattage too high for a slow line, you’ll get hot spots. Too low? The fabric comes out damp. It’s a bit of a balancing act. The nuts and bolts of the tube We build these lamps with high-purity quartz. Why? Because they need to handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking. We also make sure the filament is dead-center so the heat spreads evenly. One quick tip: check your transformers. These tubes have a specific surge when they start up, and if your gear isn’t rated for it, you’re going to burn through lamps way faster than you should.
